PAWS FOR PATRICK-Emotional Support Animals and Mental Health

Over 5 million young people suffer from mental illness in the United States (CDC, 2022). There are a number of treatments out there to help with any mental health concerns- therapy, medication, rehabilitation, the list goes on. Paws for Patrick takes pride in their animals.

Established in 2020 in honor of Patrick Roemer, Paws for Patrick is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the mental health of young people through the Emotional Support of Animals. Starting in Lake Forest, Illinois, it has now expanded nationally to 41 states, leaving a growing impact.

Healing through Animals

Paws for Patrick understand that sometimes words and other treatments can fall short. Sometimes, you just want someone to be there for you, without judgment. Animals offer unique solace and unconditional love, proven to improve heart health, alleviate depression, anxiety, and loneliness, and promote overall well-being. For Patrick Roemer and many others, Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) aren’t just pets but therapeutic aids.

Creating a Legacy

Inspired by Patrick’s profound connection with animals, his family established Paws for Patrick in his memory, turning their grief into solidity. Paws for Patrick streamline the ESA process, providing seekers with therapists who assess their eligibility for an ESA letter and dedicated Wish Granters who offer guidance and support. Paws for Patrick goes beyond ESA letters, offering financial assistance, guidance in finding an ESA, dog training, and supplies, all free of charge.

Building towards the Future

Paws for Patrick aims to sustain its mission, ensuring no one is turned away due to a lack of resources. Committed to expanding their reach, they seek partnerships and resources to ensure access to animal companionship for those in need, forging a future where everyone can attain mental well-being.
